I wish my paintings to talk to people, to communicate an understanding of global human experience through my own experience. I am not attracted by cryptic communication in my paintings. My aim is the opposite: I want to be as direct as possible. Ultimately, I wish that each of my paintings could be a link between people experiencing similar emotions or situations.
Figurative and abstract
Either I have reflected about something, and I have a representation in my head, not of the full painting, but of a starting contour, an idea (Figurative).
Or, I just face the white canvas, just linking with my internal universe in the now (Abstract).
Figurative: When I have reflected about something, then I work that contour out with chalk on canvas, until I am finally happy with it. It can take time until I recognize what I wish on the canvas. When it is achieved, I follow the contour with a pen, then I swipe out the chalk left on the canvas. The contour is done. I then start selecting some colours that come to my mind naturally, and the colouring takes over and just flow. It is building up while I move on, one colour is calling the other. I may review parts of it, I may see something new in the process, that is calling me in another direction. The full painting is raising in my consciousness slowly until I am done.
Abstract: I just face the white canvas, just linking with my internal universe, and I let go directly with the paint, I know that I am trying to reach something, which can not be described in words. I work and I work, and then suddenly, it is there. What is on the canvas is what is inside me, and I know that I am done.
Then, a full serenity takes over in me.
